What the Health Canada label says it is for
1 INDICATIONS ZIAGEN (abacavir) is indicated in antiretroviral combination therapy for the treatment of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection. 1.1 Pediatrics Pediatrics (≥ 3 months to < 18 years of age): ZIAGEN is indicated in pediatric patients aged 3 months and older in combination with other antiretroviral agents. The safety and efficacy of ZIAGEN in pediatric patients less than 3 months of age have not been established; therefore, Health Canada has not authorized an indication for pediatric use in patients less than 3 months of age. 1.2 Geriatrics Geriatrics (≥ 65 years of age): Clinical studies of ZIAGEN did not include sufficient numbers of patients aged 65 and older to determine whether they respond differently from younger patients. In general, dose selection for an elderly patient should be cautious, reflecting the greater frequency of decreased hepatic, renal, or cardiac function, and of concomitant disease or other drug therapy. https://pdf.hres.ca/dpd_pm/00071490.PDF PM date: JUL 05, 2023 Source product: ZIAGEN; DIN 02240358; fetched 2026-09-10 Product monograph posted by Health Canada; excerpt for lookup only.
