1 INDICATIONS pms-DIGOXIN (digoxin tablets and digoxin oral solution) are indicated for: • Congestive Heart Failure: pms-DIGOXIN is indicated for the treatment of mild to moderate heart failure. pms-DIGOXIN increases left ventricular ejection fraction and improves heart failure symptoms as evidenced by exercise capacity and heart failure-related hospitalizations and emergency care, while having no effect on mortality. Where possible, pms-DIGOXIN should be used with a diuretic and angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor, but an optimal order for starting these three drugs cannot be specified. Digoxin is usually continued after failure is controlled unless some known precipitating factor is corrected. Studies have shown that withdrawal of digoxin may worsen functional status, exercise capacity, and the left ventricular ejection fraction in patients with heart failure. In patients in whom digoxin may be difficult to regulate, or in whom the risk of toxicity may be great (e.g., patients with unstable renal function or whose potassium levels tend to fluctuate) a cautious withdrawal of digoxin may be considered.
