What the Health Canada label says it is for
1 INDICATIONS TEVA-ATAZANAVIR (atazanavir capsules) is indicated in combination with other antiretroviral agents for the treatment of human immunodeficiency virus-1 (HIV-1) infection in adults and pediatric patients 6 years of age and older weighing at least 20 kg. This indication is based on analyses of plasma HIV-1 RNA levels and CD4 cell counts from controlled studies of 96 weeks duration in antiretroviral-naive patients and 48 weeks duration in antiretroviral-treatment- experienced patients. In antiretroviral-treatment-experienced patients with prior virologic failure, co-administration of TEVA- ATAZANAVIR/ritonavir is recommended (see 14 CLINICAL TRIALS). The number of baseline primary protease inhibitor mutations affects the virologic response to TEVA- ATAZANAVIR/ritonavir (see 15 MICROBIOLOGY - Resistance). (See, 4 DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION, 7 WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS, 15 MICROBIOLOGY – Resistance.) 1.1 Pediatrics Pediatrics (from 6 to <18 years of age and weighing at least 20 kg): Based on the data submitted and reviewed by Health Canada, the safety and efficacy of atazanavir capsules in pediatric patients have been established.
