Reason for Use code 347 Initial Trial: For patients with mild to moderate Alzheimer's Disease (Mini-Mental State Exam [MMSE] 10-26). Patients will be reimbursed for a period of up to 3 months after which continued treatment must be reassessed. Network note: Maximum duration 3 months. Coverage limit: LU Authorization Period: 1 year Reason for Use code 348 Continuation: Further reimbursement will be made available to those patients whose disease has not progressed/deteriorated while on this drug. Patients must continue to have a MMSE score of 10-26. Coverage limit: LU Authorization Period: 1 year

What the Health Canada label says it is for
1. Indications Galantamine ER (galantamine extended release capsules) is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of patients with mild to moderate dementia of the Alzheimer’s type. Galantamine has not been studied in controlled clinical trials for longer than 6 months. Galantamine ER should only be prescribed by (or following consultation with) clinicians who are experienced in the diagnosis and management of Alzheimer’s disease. 1.1. Pediatrics Pediatrics (<18 years of age): No data are available in children. Therefore, the use of Galantamine ER is not recommended in children under 18 years of age. 1.2.
