1. Indications NEXPLANON® (etonogestrel) is indicated for: • Prevention of pregnancy for up to 3 years. 1.1. Pediatrics Pediatrics (< 18 years of age): Safety and efficacy have been studied in women between 18 and 40 years. NEXPLANON is not indicated for use before menarche. No clinical studies have been conducted in women less than 18 years of age; therefore, Health Canada has not authorized an indication for pediatric use. 1.2. Geriatrics Geriatrics (> 65 years of age): This product has not been studied in women over 65 years of age and is not indicated in postmenopausal women. No data are available to Health Canada; therefore, Health Canada has not authorized an indication for geriatric use. Overweight women NEXPLANON may become less effective in overweight women over time, especially in the presence of other factors that decrease etonogestrel concentrations, such as concomitant use of hepatic enzyme inducers.
