1 INDICATIONS pms-ANAGRELIDE (anagrelide hydrochloride capsules) is indicated for: • Treatment of patients with thrombocythemia secondary to myeloproliferative neoplasms to reduce the elevated platelet count and the risk of thrombosis and to ameliorate associated symptoms, including thrombo-hemorrhagic events. pms-ANAGRELIDE is intended for chronic usage and has not been evaluated for treatment of the acute life-threatening complications of thrombocytosis. 1.1 Pediatrics The safety and efficacy of anagrelide hydrochloride in patients under 16 years of age have not been established. Health Canada has not authorized an indication for pediatric use. 1.2 Geriatrics The safety and effectiveness of anagrelide hydrochloride have not been evaluated in studies specific to the elderly. Note: Requests for cancer drugs are considered under the Case-by-Case Review Program (CBCRP) which is administered by Ontario Health (Cancer Care Ontario) on behalf of the Ministry of Health. The CBCRP considers funding requests for drugs (both oral therapies and injectable drugs) for the treatment of cancer in patients who have a rare clinical circumstance that is immediately life-threatening (death is likely within a matter of months) and who require treatment with an unfunded drug, because there is no other satisfactory and funded treatment.
