Therapeutic Notes (formulary)
The risk of ototoxicity with topical aminoglycoside may increase with prolonged therapy. Topical use of antibiotics increases the likelihood of development of bacterial resistance, especially with prolonged use, sometimes rendering the systemic use of this antibiotic class useless in these patients.
