What the Health Canada label says it is for
INDICATIONS AND CLINICAL USE Hypertension APO-CAPTO (captopril) is indicated for the treatment of essential or renovascular hypertension. It is usually administered in association with other drugs, particularly thiazide diuretics. The blood pressure lowering effects of captopril and thiazides are approximately additive. In using APO-CAPTO, consideration should be given to the risk of neutropenia/agranulocytosis (see WARNINGS). a) In patients with normal renal function. APO-CAPTO should normally be used in those patients in whom treatment with diuretics or beta-blockers was found ineffective or has been associated with unacceptable adverse effects. APO-CAPTO can be tried as an initial agent in those patients with severe hypertension or in those in whom the use of diuretics and/or beta-blockers is contraindicated or in patients with medical conditions in which those drugs frequently cause serious adverse effects. b) In patients with impaired renal function. In these patients, particularly those with collagen vascular disease, captopril should be reserved for hypertensives wh… https://pdf.hres.ca/dpd_pm/00022606.PDF PM date: November 1, 2013 Source product: APO-CAPTO TAB 12.5MG; DIN 00893595; fetched 2026-09-10 Product monograph posted by Health Canada; excerpt for lookup only.
