What the Health Canada label says it is for
1. Indications AVALIDE® (irbesartan/hydrochlorothiazide) is indicated: • for the treatment of essential hypertension in patients for whom combination therapy is appropriate (see DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION). • as initial therapy in patients with severe essential hypertension (Sitting DBP ≥ 110 mmHg) for whom the benefit of a prompt blood pressure reduction exceeds the risk of initiating combination therapy in these patients (see CLINICAL TRIALS and DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION). AVALIDE is not indicated as initial therapy in patients with mild to moderate essential hypertension. 1.1. Pediatrics Pediatrics (< 18 years of age): The safety and efficacy of AVALIDE in patients <18 years of age have not been established. Therefore, Health Canada has not authorized an indication for pediatric use (see WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS, Special Populations). 1.2.
