What the Health Canada label says it is for
1 INDICATIONS OLMETEC® (olmesartan medoxomil) is indicated for the treatment of mild to moderate essential hypertension. OLMETEC® may be used alone or in combination with thiazide diuretic. Pediatrics Pediatrics (6–16 years of age): Based on the data submitted and reviewed by Health Canada, the safety and efficacy of OLMETEC® in pediatric patients has been established; therefore, Health Canada has authorized an indication for pediatric use. Antihypertensive effects of OLMETEC® have been demonstrated in hypertensive pediatric patients aged 6 to 16 years. Use of OLMETEC® in this age group is supported by evidence from an adequate and well-controlled study of OLMETEC® in pediatric patients (see CONTRAINDICATIONS, WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS, Special Populations, ACTION AND CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY, and CLINICAL TRIALS). Geriatrics Geriatrics (≥65 years of age): No overall differences in effectiveness or safety were observed between elderly patients and younger patients.
