INDICATIONS AND CLINICAL USE PRADAXA (dabigatran etexilate) is indicated for the: • prevention of venous thromboembolic events (VTE) in patients who have undergone elective total hip replacement (THR) or total knee replacement (TKR) surgery • treatment of venous thromboembolism events (deep vein thrombosis [DVT], pulmonary embolism [PE]) and prevention of recurrent DVT and PE • prevention of stroke and systemic embolism in patients with atrial fibrillation, in whom anticoagulation is appropriate Geriatrics (>65 years of age): Most older subjects demonstrate an increase in exposure to dabigatran, usually in association with age-related decline of renal function (see WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS, Renal, and DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION, Renal Impairment). Pediatrics (<18 years of age): The safety and efficacy of PRADAXA have not been established in children <18 years of age.
