INDICATIONS AND CLINICAL USE Adults: Schizophrenia SAPHRIS® (asenapine) sublingual tablet is indicated for the treatment of schizophrenia. Bipolar Disorder SAPHRIS® is indicated for the acute treatment of manic or mixed episodes associated with bipolar I disorder. SAPHRIS® may be used as acute monotherapy or co-therapy with lithium or divalproex sodium (see Part II: CLINICAL TRIALS). Physicians who elect to use SAPHRIS® for extended periods should periodically re-evaluate the long-term risks and benefits of the drug for the individual patient. Geriatrics (≥ 65 years of age): See WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS – Serious Warnings and Precautions Box and Special populations. SAPHRIS® should be used with care in the elderly. Limited data on safety and efficacy are available in patients 65 years of age or older.
