INDICATIONS AND CLINICAL USE Adults Schizophrenia Taro-Lurasidone (lurasidone hydrochloride tablets) is indicated for the management of the manifestations of schizophrenia. The antipsychotic efficacy of lurasidone hydrochloride tablets was established in short-term (6-week) controlled trials [see CLINICAL TRIALS]. The efficacy of lurasidone hydrochloride tablets in long- term use, that is, for more than 6 weeks, has not been systematically evaluated in controlled trials of patients with manifestations of schizophrenia. Depressive Episodes Associated with Bipolar I Disorder Taro-Lurasidone is indicated as monotherapy or as adjunctive therapy with lithium or valproate for the acute management of depressive episodes associated with bipolar I disorder. The efficacy of lurasidone hydrochloride tablets for long-term use, that is, for more than 6 weeks, has not been systematically evaluated in controlled studies. The physician who elects to use Taro- Lurasidone for extended periods should periodically re-evaluate the long term usefulness of the drug for the individual patient. Note: Requests for cancer drugs are considered under the Case-by-Case Review Program (CBCRP) which is administered by Ontario Health (Cancer Care Ontario) on behalf of the Ministry of Health. The CBCRP considers funding requests for drugs (both oral therapies and injectable drugs) for the treatment of cancer in patients who have a rare clinical circumstance that is immediately life-threatening (death is likely within a matter of months) and who require treatment with an unfunded drug, because there is no other satisfactory and funded treatment.
