What the Health Canada label says it is for
INDICATIONS AND CLINICAL USE TEVA-CLONIDINE (clonidine hydrochloride) is indicated for the treatment of hypertension. It may be used alone or in combination with thiazide diuretics. Clonidine should normally be used in those patients in whom treatment with diuretic or beta-blocker was found ineffective or has been associated with unacceptable adverse effects. TEVA-CLONIDINE can also be tried as an initial agent in those patients in whom use of diuretics and/or beta blockers is contraindicated or in patients with medical conditions in which these drugs frequently cause serious adverse effects. Note: Requests for cancer drugs are considered under the Case-by-Case Review Program (CBCRP) which is administered by Ontario Health (Cancer Care Ontario) on behalf of the Ministry of Health. The CBCRP considers funding requests for drugs (both oral therapies and injectable drugs) for the treatment of cancer in patients who have a rare clinical circumstance that is immediately life-threatening (death is likely within a matter of months) and who require treatment with an unfunded drug, because there is no other satisfactory and funded treatment.
